Your Guide to Editing Your Closet

Cleaning out your closet is a task that’s about as much fun as going to the dentist or filling out lengthy paperwork, but just like paying bills, it must be done. To make this daunting-yet-totally-refreshing experience easier on you, we created a friendly guide that will help you decide what’s worth keeping and what needs to go. The result will be a perfectly edited wardrobe, which will make getting ready even easier. Closet clutter, be gone!

Blazers

Keep your best blazers, but go ahead and sell or donate the ones that are uncomfortably too tight or faded far from their original color.

Blouses and Button-Down Shirts

Always maintain a solid selection of office-appropriate blouses in your closet. Get rid of any ill-fitting or permanently stained blouses and button-down shirts.

Dresses

When editing your dresses, ask yourself one question. Have you tried it on three times in the past year, without actually wearing it? If so, it’s time to realize it’s just not going to happen.

Jeans

Try on every pair and make a pile of your favorites. From there, keep one or two of each jean style: skinny, cropped, boyfriend, distressed, boot-cut, and flared—you want to have options. Confession: A minor denim addiction isn’t entirely a bad thing, so we also suggest keeping a larger selection of the style that is most flattering for your body.

Sweaters

Did it shrink in the dryer? Donate it. Is it pilling like crazy? Donate it. Does it have moth holes that aren’t worth fixing? Donate it. Is it fine, but very similar to other pieces you already own? Keep two (okay, three) of your favorites, and donate the rest.

Skirts

Can you think of at least three occasions and ways to wear a particular skirt? If not, this may be the moment to officially retire it.

Trousers

Check the bottom of your pants: are the ends tattered and stained? If so, it’s time to let them go. (Side note: if you properly tailor your trousers, this shouldn’t happen!)

Remember, we are your style specialists. If you ever have any questions on what to keep and what to purge, mixing and matching old with new or just need some general style advise…we’re here for you!

Ruffles

We’re used to seeing over-the-top pieces on runways that often employ laughable proportions. But for fall, designers like Norma Kamali managed to fuse structured high-fashion ruffles with wearability.

Plaid Coats

Fall runways usually bring more tartan than we can handle, but this year, labels like Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham approached plaid in a much cleaner, subtler, muted way, and used the print on everything from outerwear to cocktail dresses.

Marie Laure is driven by a desire to give each piece of jewelry its own unique spirit. Her inspiration goes beyond the boundaries of the pre-established fashions. She seeks out vintage pearls, ribbons, and old lace. These basic elements undergo a transformation, blending couture and jewelry, as she enriches them with hand embroidery and wraps pearls in turbans of muslin, silk and leather. The collection is made up of long sautoir necklaces and manchette cuff bracelets.

A Chanel bag is officially the best financial investment you could make…

As if we needed another reason to lust after the latest Chanel bag, a new study has revealed that buying one of the Parisian label’s iconic styles could potentially be a safer financial bet than buying a house. Fabulous news, isn’t it?

People often harp on about how certain clothing items are ‘investment pieces’, and often we’ve just used the term as an excuse to buy something we probably shouldn’t. But a classic Chanel 2.55, it seems, really is a money-maker after all.

2-55

The research, conducted by experts at vintage handbag authority Baghunter, found that in the last six years alone, the value of Chanel bags had increased by a massive 70%.
When the iconic Chanel 2.55 flap bag first launched in February 1955, its retail price was $220, around £154. By the 90s, its price had hit $1,150 and today, it’ll set you back $4,900.

Another BagHunter report, released back in January, focused on Hermes’ iconic Birkin bag and found that this classic’s value increased by 14.2% year-on-year, making them a better investment than stocks or gold.

To sum up, it seems, we should all go and buy one of each, today!
