The Getaway Guide: Beach House BBQ

The beach BBQ is practically a Summer ritual, and while we’ve been year after year, sometimes we’re still left wondering what to wear. The key to dressing for any beachy party is functional footwear — stilettos have no place in the sand — a cute hat, and a great pair of shades. Overall, the look should be simple, not super-styled, with room to stash your suit. With that in mind, we’ve got five fresh looks to get you outfitted for all of your seasonal beach parties!

For a pretty look that’s low-key and easy to pull off, opt for a boho style maxi dress. Slip a standout suit underneath and pair the look with flat sandals for a party look that’ll pack some punch without trying too hard.

If you crave a look that’s on the sportier side, dress up your favorite cutoffs with a breezy tank and a few cool accessories, a pair of functional footwear and a great hat to protect against the sun.

If you opt for a more feminine style, keep it low maintenance. Glitzy or super tight dresses aren’t going to be your best bet for hanging out on the beach. Instead, go for a silhouette that lets you move, like this pretty eyelet cover up. Keep your footwear casual to balance the look.

We love the idea of a sweet romper for a beach party. It’s a no fuss one-piece solution to dressing for the sunny outdoors. Throw a pretty bikini in your beach bag, or layer it on underneath, then try a cool pair of wedged espadrilles to lengthen those gams!

If your BBQ is less about the sand and surf, and more about hanging out on dry land, you could go a little more dressed up. Opt for a bright printed skirt, yet keep it toned down with a solid shell up top and a great woven tote to tie it all together.
